Summary
Project funding duration was 2010-2011 to 2011-12 under the aegis of West Bengal Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation Ltd . As Garhbeta III belongs to tribal belt, the Managing Director of West Bengal Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation Ltd visited the site and decided to implement the Programme in 25 acres of barren lands at Dhansol Mouza of Gopiballavpur 1 Dev. Block. The major crisis of this area is its remoteness and crisis of communication in all respects . The Project took-off in February, 2011 and by October, 2011 one lakh sixty-five thousand plants were placed in the field. Total person-days generated up to October, 12 is 14194.
Focus
of the Project was to utilize the vast cultivable wasteland where so far no crop has been raised. If the area comes under lac -cultivation and associated programmes, these fallow lands could improve the life and living of the Tribal BPL Population apart from improving ecological balance.
Aims
of the Project were primarily to search a sustainable livelihood programme for the Tribal BPL population of the area. Secondly, to apply the learning of Garhbeta III project and thirdly, to develop a set of skilled Human Resources in this depressed area, where no such effort was ever initiated.
Story
This Project, third of its kind to IMAP, was another challenge -- tackling the aridity of the soil utilizing the local unexposed Tribal population and train them to this New Technology Farming, but language became the critical barrier in the process of training. By July, 2011 plantation was complete --- the desired green change appeared. The most interesting is, this arid land produced a host of good quality vegetables as a part of intercropping. Two trial inoculations successfully took place in February & July 2012 . As 85 percent of work has been done by the Tribal women, we could put one step to success to develop a set of skilled Human Resource.
