Working in remote rural areas has made us aware of the English language proficiency gaps
among young people from these communities. We noticed that despite going to local schools
and speaking the local tongue, these young people are unable to communicate simple
computer commands. The basics of computer literacy are beyond their reach even.
We cannot argue against the fact that knowledge of computers is necessary to comprehend the
world around us. A computer is a crucial tool for teaching and learning, much like conversation,
chalk, and a blackboard. In light of this, a fresh project has started in the far-flung Paschim
Medinipur village of Chandrakona 1 Block. The main objective is to guarantee that English is
introduced correctly and given priority in the education of young minds.
Our view is always that technology should be used to enhance all facets of life and livelihood. Therefore, modern academic hardware and software have also been added to this new educational endeavour.
We made an effort to integrate a digital learning platform so that learning English would
become standard fare in schools. Pre-primary enrolment at the school began. These young
minds don't hesitate to learn any language. Thanks to the creative teaching methods that use
technology to speed up learning, The children become more accustomed to English and lose
their fear of it.
The medium of teaching and learning is audio-visual. The reason for using audio-visual media
has several advantages. In this remote area, it is difficult to get a teacher with sound English
proficiency. Secondly, reducing transmission loss in a teaching-learning process is a major
issue. Thirdly, as these young people have little opportunity and exposure to life outside the
village area, they would be able to view and hear many things. The right pronunciation of
places, shapes, events and other important happenings in the world can be brought to their
eyes and ears. They would have the test of real-life experience. Their minds would be free to
break the geographical and cultural barriers. Moreover, they would understand and appreciate
the importance of a computer and the English language.
